Important Reminders for a Smooth Countertop Installation
What to Do Before Installation
Existing Countertop Removal
Before you schedule your templating appointment, it’s important to make sure that your cabinets are set, level, and well-supported. If you have Ikea cabinets, please note that they cannot have plastic legs on them. If the templator arrives and your cabinets are not ready, there will be a fee added to the invoice. Additionally, any changes made to the work order need to be communicated to the salesperson. Special requests such as changes to overhang or backsplash must be made at the time of templating. Once the slab goes to the saw, there cannot be any changes unless the customer wants to pay for a new slab.
Countertop Installation
If you have a farm sink, it needs to be placed and levelled 1/16″ below the cabinet prior to templating. It should not be plumbed or glued, and we do not adhere the sink to the granite. If you have a customer-owned sink, we must receive the paper template and/or sink at the time of templating to create a plastic template for fabrication.
Cutouts, Backsplash, and Sink Installation
If you are removing your old countertops yourself or have purchased tear-out services from Granite Depot, all countertops must be clear of everything. Items under the sink cabinet and all top drawers need to be removed before installation. We are not responsible for any electrical, gas, or plumbing disconnection or reconnection. Sinks must be disconnected from water lines and plumbing before our installation team arrives.
What Should You Do During the Installation?
Someone of legal age must be present at the time of templating to sign and initial off on template sheets. A standard overhang of 1.5 inches will be made on all countertops, and all corners will be a ¾” radius unless otherwise specified. Inside corners will always be a 1-inch radius. Topmount and cooktop cutouts will be cut indoors. The customer is responsible for putting up any dust prevention equipment such as taping plastic, etc. We are not responsible for any additional clean-up costs associated with installation and templating.
